Energy without reason - self defense as an obstacle

posted by Leila Summa

Just wanted to share some thoughts about David Bohms, “On Dialogue” book:

At some point anger/pain starts to sustain itself & becomes an energy without reason. Realising this, “the natural self-defense impulse, which we got in the jungle, has been transferred from the jungle animals to these opinions/angers.” (Bohm, 1996). So we start to defend our opinions as we would defend ourselves. This does unfortunately not allow a dialogue to take place. Because if two are right you can not lead a dialogue (i agree to David Bohms hypothesis). Thought defends its basic assumptions agains evidence, the may be wrong and this leads to a “Block, “insensitivity” or “anesthesia” about one’s own contractions. Ever experienced?
